ABOUT ALAN MCCALLUM

Alan began his racing career with Karting in Rotax Competition at the age of twelve.  Capturing the Houston Regional Rotax Championship in 2007 took him to the Rotax Grand Nationals in Denver, CO, the week before beginning his Freshman year at Arizona State University.  With a long-term goal of becoming a winning professional both on and off the racetrack, Alan attended several courses at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, AZ.  In October 2009 Alan drove in his first auto race when he joined the Inaugural Bondurant Championship Race Series in its second weekend.  By December he was making his first podium appearance in the series, placing second.  In January 2010, Alan drove to his first win in the series and in auto racing.  By the time the nine-month series came to an end, Alan was within 50 points of the lead, completing the series in third place while chalking up  three 1st Places, four 2nd Places, six 3rd Places, six poles, and  two track records.

Alan followed up his success in the Bondurant Series with more Formula Mazda competitions, racing in events organized by the SCCA and NASA sanctioning bodies.  He took three first-place finishes at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA, and two wins at Buttonwillow.  That September Alan captured the 2010 NASA National Championship title at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah, and in 2011 placed 3rd in the SCCA National Runoffs at Road America. In 2012 Alan returned to Road America to take the 2012 SCCA National Championship in Formula Mazda, also earning the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for his run to the front from a starting position of 11th.

In recognition of his accomplishments in 2012, Alan received the coveted A. J. Foyt Driver of the Year Award from the Houston Region SCCA.  In the 2013 season Alan added seven wins, six poles and two track records. He won the SCCA Mid-States Majors Conference Championship and the National Points Championship. He also joined the five driver team for N1 Racing in their Lexus IS250 for the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in December 2013. In 2014, Alan improved his own track record at Hallett Raceway. And in October 2014, he reached the podium for a third time at the SCCA National Runoffs, this time earning a silver medal for his 2nd place finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

In addition to his racing success, Alan graduated from Arizona State University in December, 2011, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design Management.  His studies have afforded him with an abundance of valuable knowledge and creative insight into many of the effective practices of today’s tough business world.  Human relations, communications, and team-building skills that are useful in all forms of business, as well as unique, culturally diverse experiences from studying abroad in Italy, characterize Alan with tools and skills that are very desirable in a young up-and-coming racecar driver.

In 2014, Alan made the decision to pursue a career as an Engineer. Currently, Alan is attending the University of Houston as a full-time Engineering student, and is devoting all of his energies to achieving success as a Mechanical Engineer. He is also an active member of Formula SAE at UofH.  But, rest assured that he and the team look forward to getting out on track from time to time, as his studies permit.
